2017 Construction Management Student Competition is Underway
NOVEMEBR 2016 — The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) Alliance for Progress is sponsoring the third annual Construction Management Student Competition involving six schools selected from across the country: Auburn University, Colorado State University, Texas A&M, Tuskegee University, University of Cincinnati, and University of Florida.
The University of Cincinnati is sending four of its construction management program students to compete: (L to R) Matt Hudak, Brian Mallernee (team captain), Daniel Kurtz, and Michael Kadash, all of whom have also served terms in the Kalkreuth Intern/Co-op Program. Assisting the UC team in the competition is KRSM Ohio division project manager Paul Novak (inset), who is a UC alumnus and is serving as the Alliance Member Team Mentor.
“When I heard these guys were teaming up, I knew I wanted to be part of it to support them and my alma mater,” Paul said. “Their decision to engage in this competition on their own speaks to the impact of the Kalkreuth Intern/Co-op Program, and each of them have experiences ranging from estimating to production and safety. They have a real shot at bringing home a win not only for UC, but Kalkreuth as well.”
The competition is designed to challenge these students in their knowledge of roofing, project management, estimating, safety, and quality control, as well as their formal presentation skills. All teams are currently working on written proposals to be submitted by December 12. From there, five finalist teams will be chosen to present their proposals during the International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Las Vegas on March 2 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
We wish all of the schools good luck as this competition helps to develop the next generation of industry leaders!
