PROJECT SPOTLIGHT – OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY NRDT

August 2017 – The Ohio State University (OSU) North Residential District Transformation (NRDT) was a multi-million dollar, multi-year project that began in 2014 out of Columbus, Ohio. It was a design-build project that consisted of 11 different buildings and was led by KRSM Project Manager Paul Novak and KRSM Superintendent Herschel Morrison with the help of Project Manager Tomm Dunbar, Project Manager Bill Zonker, prior to his retirement, and Ohio Division Manager Pat Hurley.

Over the course of two years, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal crews worked hard to make sure the OSU NRDT was done on time while giving their best effort from start to finish. Altogether, KRSM provided the installation of 170,000 square feet of TPO Roofing, 24,100 square feet of Wall Panels and 10,300 lineal feet of Edge Metal. Of the 11 buildings, 8 buildings were dorms, one was a recreation and meeting center, one was a cafeteria and one was an entrance to an existing dorm. Even though all of these buildings were new construction, KRSM crews still had to face the challenge of operat ing while school was in session, giving students walkways around work zones as well as notifying surrounding buildings 48 hours i n advance of work schedule.

Paul Novak was assigned to the project as an intern and took over as the Project Manager after accepting a full time position with Kalkreuth following his graduation from the University of Cincinnati. Herschel Morrison was also promoted from Foreman to Superintendent during the course of this project. Together, they worked hard and made safety their first priority. “Team effort played a huge role in all aspects from our roofing and sheet metal crews to the office personnel who were involved” said Novak “and without Hersch, this job would have not been as successful as it was. The KRSM team truly did an outstanding job in getting this project completed”.
