APRIL 14, 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s Senior Engineer Ed Calvert achieved his LEED AP BD+C re-certification through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Ed also joined forces with the West Virginia chapter of the USGBC, of which he is a board member, and aided in the arrangement of a student expo at Wheeling Jesuit University’s (WJU) campus.
On April 14, the USGBC WV kicked off their first Informational Presentation with Ed Calvert as the host and USGBC WV Chair Jill Watkins as the keynote speaker. Jill discussed general concepts regarding the scope of LEED as it relates to commercial, industrial, and residential projects while Ed addressed local schools and the local implementation of LEED to achieve more efficient buildings—specifically Cameron High School in Cameron, WV. Ed also addressed the LEED Platinum certified Dunbar Senior High School in Washington, D.C. as an example of superior sustainability efforts.
“This was a great opportunity to present green building, and LEED in particular, to the local community as well as the students at WJU. We introduced our chapter of the USGBC and the services we provide to individual communities and the state of West Virginia as a whole,” Ed said. USGBC WV plans to do the same presentation at West Liberty University in West Liberty, WV in the fall and to continue these “green” conversations and events well into the future.
