SEPTEMBER 2018 – Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Human Resources Business Partner Payten Butler has attended multiple on-campus career fairs throughout the last month along with other employees. The goal is to educate engineering and construction management students about opportunities at KRSM and East Coast Metal Systems to attract potential interns for the Co-Op/Intern Program.
The Co-Op/Intern program provides college students with the opportunity to apply traditional classroom learning to on-the-job situations and experiences. KRSM strongly believes that internships are an important tool in recruiting, developing, and hiring people in our industry. In fact, 60% of our current estimators, project managers, and safety personnel were developed through the program.
In attempt to continue educating people on the vast opportunities within the company, KRSM is scheduled to attend the following career fairs through-out the month of October:
• 10/2 Engineering & Engineering Technology Career Fair at The University of Akron College of Engineering
• 10/4 Safety Management Career & Internship Expo at Slippery Rock Uni-versity
• 10/15-16 Construction Career Fair at Virginia Tech Myers-Lawson School of Construction
It is the company’s ongoing goal to continue to promote the Co-Op/Internship program and provide a place where students can begin to build a career by learning outside of the typical classroom setting. SEPTEMBER 2018 – Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Ohio Division Office Manager and Project Administrator Becky McClaskey is this month’s featured employee.
Becky has been working for KRSM for 10 years and has been in the construction industry for almost 20. She started with KRSM when the company she previously worked with closed its doors. KRSM offered her a position when they purchased the buildings as the new Ohio Division location.
Becky was initially hired on as Project Administrator and quickly earned the title of Office Manager. Even though day-to-day job duties vary, Becky is in charge of a bit of everything. She completes all change orders and close outs for production jobs, closely works with accounts receivable for billing, works with the IT department to handle office updates, and even manages all building maintenance. In addition, when needed, project managers go to her for help with the schedule of values for billing purposes. Most importantly, Becky makes sure company policies and procedures are communicated and followed.
With many years of experience in the industry, Becky is everyone’s go-to person and when asked what her advice would be to current and/or new employees, she said, “Ask! Ask beforehand; ask for current policies and procedures; ask people who have been doing the job.”
“I’m grateful for the way the company works with people and how it’s more like a family; People work here for years,” said Becky. “I feel comfortable. I feel like I belong and am able to contribute to the success of the company which I really appreciate.”
“She is such a great worker, and I can always rely on her to get her work done on time and done correctly,” said Ohio Division Vice President Pat Hurley.
