“It has become an annual event for us and helps us maintain our relationship with Gilbane,” said Dan. “The event also supports breast cancer awareness which, is very important to both of our companies.”

MAY 2018 – On Monday, May 21, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Business Development Manager Lyndsey Martin and Estimators Benson Phillips and Justin Spillman attended the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Kentucky 18th Annual Charity Golf Classic.
KRSM served as a hole sponsor, and Lyndsey manned a table talking to each team and offering snacks as they passed.
Benson, Justin, and Alex Martin, Lyndsey’s husband, competed as a threesome and ended up winning 1st place overall.
“Our team did great on Monday! I always appreciate Jeff Piazza allowing us to be involved and active outside the typical workplace setting. I feel these events are some of the most beneficial things we can participate in. The AGC always has a great turnout and makes it worth our time to attend,” Lyndsey said.
MAY 2018 – The Association of Union Contractors (TAUC) held its annual leadership conference in Key Largo, Florida at the Ocean Reef Club May 15-18.
Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) President and CEO John Kalkreuth, National Accounts Manager Jim Brinsky, and Human Resources & Safety Director Seth Abraham attended the event.
The conference consisted of 13 different speakers and included representatives from unions, building owners, and contractors. This year, the focus was on the future of enhancing and
advancing the union construction industry.
“This four day conference was a great networking opportunity for us,” said Brinsky. “We were able to talk to many people from multiple locations all while developing a plan for the future.”

MAY 2018 – Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) and East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) held quarterly safety meetings across all locations last month.
Quarterly safety meetings help keep crews refreshed on safety guidelines as well as new procedures. They are also a great opportunity to teach crews what aspects of jobsite safety they need to improve on.
“Safety is and always will be our number one priority so it is important for our field employees to stay up-to-date on all safety guidelines and keep safety at the forefront while on a job site” said Safety Director Jeremy Dvorcek.
April 2018 – Austin started working for KRSM in 2013 as a Co-op/Intern and served four rotations within the program—three in production and one in estimating—all while attending the University of Cincinnati to earn his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Upon graduation, Austin was offered a position as Project Manager (PM). “A project manager generally works with the foreman to create a project plan based on field conditions. From there, we make sure things are on track and will be completed on time as well as making sure we have the correct equipment and safety measures,” Austin said.
Throughout the years, Austin has worked on many high-profile projects including the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC, his largest completed project to date. He is currently working on the Columbia Place Apartments and Hotel in DC, which is even larger than the Marriott Marquis. “Austin takes ownership, represents Kalkreuth’s interests, and puts us in the position to meet and exceed customer expectations, and he does it in such a friendly manner,” said Maryland Vice President Dave Hesse. “He is relentless and a great communicator. He takes great pride in representing KRSM on all of his jobs and has a great rapport with the field teams.”
“Being a PM carries great responsibility as we manage everything on a project from the time we get a contract until we complete final punch lists. The well-rounded experience we gain is second to none because you can’t get that anywhere else, and that’s what I love about Kalkreuth,” Austin said. “Paying attention to details is key. All the little stuff matters, whether it relates to the composite panels, roofing, or safety program. We must be able to deal with adverse conditions because we are always learning new products and installation techniques on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis.”
We are proud to have Austin as a member of the Kalkreuth family, and we appreciate his continuous hard work and dedication to each and every job. Keep up the good work Austin!
Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Submittal Engineer Kristina Koepke recently passed her LEED Green Associate (GA) Exam.
Koepke has only been with KRSM for two years but has been working with LEED projects for about 10 years since graduating college. Two of her biggest LEED projects thus far were the DC United Stadium and the University of Maryland Cole Field House. Although she has only taken the first half of the LEED exam, Kristina hopes to take the second half to become certified as a LEED Accredited Professional (AP) in Building Construction and Design (BD + C) sometime in August.
“In Maryland, most of our projects are LEED. As a Submittal Engineer, I see more of these types of projects every day,” she said. “I wanted to understand more of the LEED rating system, and it shows our customers that we are knowledgeable about sustainability and that they can rely on us to do the work correctly.”
With Kristina working her way up the LEED charts, KRSM’s LEED future is looking bright. “With Kristina now having her LEED GA certification, it will help her not only with bidding process but it will also help the outreach in our areas,” said Ed Calvert, KRSM Senior Engineer, LEED AP BD + C, GRP. “We now have several people on staff that have this accreditation, through which we bring a lot of knowledge and experience to every project.”
Congratulations to Kristina Koepke on passing your LEED GA exam, and good luck on your upcoming LEED AP exam!
