KALKREUTH “RACES FOR A REASON” IN DEBBIE GREEN 5K

Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal once again served as Title Sponsor for the Debbie Green Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Leukemia in Wheeling, WV on Saturday, August 6.

Along with 1,000 other participants, nearly 70 employees, friends, and family registered for the race to represent Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal as the Title Sponsor! We were thrilled to have the biggest team in the race again this year! We are thankful to everyone who participated, especially Race Director Ron Green for organizing another great event in memory of his sister Debbie Green to benefit local families.

Debbie Green was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1970 and lost her battle in 1972. Her brother Ron, only four years old at the time, now operates this annual race for Leukemia victims and has recently opened it up to benefit families stricken with other types of childhood cancer as well. “One of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing is to help other families get through this disease just like we did,” Ron Green said.

“The Debbie Green Memorial 5K represents a great tradition for a worthy cause in the Ohio Valley. Many have us have had cancer affect our lives in some way, whether through friends or family. The Debbie Green offers support for children battling leukemia and other childhood cancers, which is a fight we feel these children shouldn’t have to undergo alone,” said company president John Kalkreuth. “We support the Debbie Green Memorial 5K because none of us can do a lot as individuals; but when a community rallies together, we can make a difference.”

I’ve had the privilege of working with Matt for the last two years, and he’s an extremely hard and loyal worker,” said Kanyuch, who works frequently with Matt. “He is, and always has been, very dedicated to KRSM, and I couldn’t ask for a better employee.”

When asked about safety on the job as KRSM’s number one priority and responsibility, Matt noted that it’s “VERY important” and has “come a long way over the last few years.”

BUILDING ENVELOPE BOOT CAMP

JUNE 22, 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal began its second round of “boot camp” which serves as a 5-week administrative basic training/intro to the construction process and various aspects of exterior envelope applications. This initiative began last year when an employee suggested some kind of training for newly hired staff to learn what we do in the field.

New hires gathered in the conference room for their first lesson on the job functions of different positions throughout the construction process. These included estimating, engineering, project management, and safety. Estimating VP Chad McLeish walked through the internal process from start to finish and then explained handoff and kickoff meetings as they relate to the start of each project.

In the weeks to come, the group will discuss low-slope roofing, steep-slope roofing, ACM wall cladding systems, and formed and insulated wall cladding systems. We thank each of our volunteer teachers as well as our participants for taking the initiative to learn the industry!

IN-HOUSE APPRENTICE TRAINING CONTINUES

JUNE 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s Maryland division continued their apprentice training and focused on screw gun and bonding adhesives as they pertain to attaching insulation/membrane.

“These training sessions are a great opportunity for our apprentices to gain the knowledge and understanding of the systems we regularly install,” said training instructor and project manager Phil Conroy. “You just can’t replace hands-on training.”

MARYLAND DIVISION “STEPS OUT”

JUNE 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s Maryland division partnered with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Maryland Chapter for Step Out Frederick last year, one of Frederick’s largest fundraising events generating proceeds in excess of $250,000 for diabetes education, research, and advocacy.

In the premier issue of Progress magazine, a publication co-produced by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and the Frederick News-Post, the Maryland team was featured in their team shirts from the walk.

“We were looking to be involved in fundraising in a corporate way and thought the ADA walk would be a great cause to support,” said Maryland Division VP David Hesse. “We’re looking forward to this year’s walk on October 9.”

KENTUCKY DIVISION EARNS JM SUMMIT CLUB ACHIEVEMENT

JUNE 13, 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s Kentucky division estimator Benson Phillips accepted the Johns Manville 2016 Peak Advantage Summit Club Award on behalf of the division. Presenting the award on behalf of Johns Manville was Dan Timmons, Midwest District Sales Agent.

Dan said, “KRSM accumulated Peak Advantage points throughout the year in 2015 and earned a Summit Club Contractor title—one of only three contractors in the state to do so… I sincerely appreciate Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal and what they’ve accomplished on behalf of JM for the state of Kentucky. I look forward to the potential opportunity to present them with the Pinnacle level award next year.”

“We have earned more than double the points 6 months into the year than we did for the whole year in 2015, so we are on track to possibly earn the Pinnacle Council level next year,” Kentucky division manager Jeff Piazza added. “We appreciate Dan and all that Johns Manville has been able to help us with.”

KALKREUTH DONATES $16K TO EASTER SEALS

JUNE 10, 2016 — Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) hosted its 2nd Annual Kalkreuth Vendor Invitational Benefitting the Easter Seals with valued vendor partners from across the country and garnered over 130 participants. Kalkreuth vendor partners sponsored the Kalkreuth Amateur Golf Classic on June 11 and 12 to secure their participation in the Vendor Invitational on June 10. Substantial participation in the events fostered KRSM’s donation of $16,140 to the Easter Seals.

The Kalkreuth Amateur Golf Classic is an extension of the oldest running amateur golf tournament in the Ohio Valley and dates back to 1945. Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal took over as title sponsor in 2007. Since that time, the tournament has benefitted the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Wheeling, WV and now attracts nearly 200 participants from the Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. Kalkreuth’s vendor partners joined together to aid in the ultimate goal of the Kalkreuth Amateur Golf Classic—to support the Easter Seals while continuing a local tradition.

The Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center is committed to creating solutions that change the lives of people living with disabilities throughout the Ohio Valley and across the country. Special events, such as the Kalkreuth golf events, help offset the cost of caring for patients with inadequate monetary resources. The Easter Seals is a non-profit organization with a heartfelt commitment to providing various services so these children and adults can live, learn, work, and play in their communities.
