DECEMBER 2018 – Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) is proud to have been involved in the construction of the Entertainment and Sports Arena (ESA) in Washington, DC which was completed this fall.
The Entertainment and Sports Arena was a multi-million dollar project that is now home of the Washington Mystics and used as a practice space for the Wizards— both professional basketball teams. The 120,000 square foot building is designed to seat 4,200 people inside the arena.
Originally, the design was to use terra cotta panels to match the buildings in the surrounding area, but to save on costs, it was decided to use metal wall panels in four different colors giving the building the same aesthetic appeal as terra cotta. Altogether, Kalkreuth installed over 50,000 square feet of insulated metal wall panels on the exterior. The building also achieved a LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The Entertainment and Sports Arena was also featured in the November issue of Metal Architecture Magazine. To learn more about this project and read the full article, visit www.digital.metalarchitecture.com.
