Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex
The Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex has had a home in Morgan County’s Appalachian Region since 1986. Construction was completed in two phases, coming to a close in December of 1991. The design received the Kentucky Society of Architects of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Hone Award of Design Excellence a year earlier.

As part of ongoing facility improvements, Kalkreuth completed 20,000 square feet of SBS roofing at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex. This large‑scale roofing project enhances the durability, safety, and operational efficiency of the facility and reflects Klakrteuth’s expertise in commercial and institutional roofing projects in Kentucky.
The Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex (EKCC) is a medium‑security correctional facility in Eastern Kentucky with an attached minimum‑security unit focused on rehabilitation and successful inmate reentry. The prison serves adult male offenders and plays a key role in Kentucky’s correctional system by prioritizing safety, accountability, and long‑term behavior change.
EKCC offers a variety of evidence‑based inmate rehabilitation programs designed to address behavioral health and reduce recidivism. These programs include drug and alcohol addiction treatment, anger management, and general life skills courses that support personal development and responsibility.
Inmates at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex have access to adult basic education, GED preparation, and technical and vocational training programs. These educational opportunities help inmates gain practical skills and prepare for employment after release.
A cornerstone of EKCC’s reentry efforts is the “Prison to Paycheck” program. This workforce readiness initiative teaches inmates essential employment skills, including resume writing, job application completion, and job interview preparation, helping improve post‑release employment outcomes across Eastern Kentucky.
