Project Description: Spencer Middle School Roane County, WV
A $20 Million Investment in Roane County Education
In August 2024, Roane County celebrated the grand opening of the new Spencer Middle School. The $20 million project marked the county’s first new school in over 30 years. This milestone investment reflects a strong commitment to modern education and community growth.
The new facility replaces an outdated building with a state-of-the-art learning environment. The design supports 21st-century education and student success. Classrooms are built for collaboration, flexibility, and hands-on instruction. Dedicated STEAM labs encourage science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics exploration. Fully equipped maker spaces promote creativity, innovation, and real-world problem solving.
Safety was also a top priority in the new school design. A secure, controlled entryway enhances protection for students and staff. The layout balances security with a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Durable EPDM Roofing and Composite Panel Installation
High-performance materials strengthen both durability and energy efficiency. Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal installed 48,700 square feet of EPDM roofing. This durable roofing system provides long-term weather resistance and low maintenance. The installation supports energy efficiency in West Virginia’s changing climate.
The exterior also features 10,000 square feet of vibrant composite wall panels. These panels enhance curb appeal and create a bold, modern appearance. The materials combine visual impact with long-lasting performance.
Project Impact: Designed for Collaboration
The campus was strategically designed to connect with the neighboring high school. Shared resources encourage collaboration across grade levels. The layout also supports a smooth academic transition for students.
Spencer Middle School now serves as a model for educational construction in West Virginia. The project combines secure design, STEAM learning spaces, and durable roofing systems. This new school positions Roane County for continued growth and student achievement.
