Project Description

In May 1867, the Allegheny Observatory was donated to the Western University of Pennsylvania (now the University of Pittsburgh) after the “Allegheny Telescope Association” was formed in 1859. Its home has been Riverview Park ever since its rebuild in 1912. The Observatory’s primary function quickly became research and is now well-known for its astrometric parallax research program. Observing sessions and illustrated lectures are frequently held to acquaint the public with the night sky.
