SAFETY AT GREATER COLUMBUS CONVENTION CENTER

May 2017 – A Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) crew attended a safety meeting and luncheon on the jobsite at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC) in Ohio. At the meeting, they competed in a small competition between all who attended to see who could produce the best new safety slogan.

First place would receive $300, and their slogan would be turned into a safety banner while second place would receive a brand new TV. Adam Whitaker, KRSM roofer, came in second place with the slogan “Building progress with safety success.”

“Adam not only guides people in the work that they do but he also guides them for safety and it has been so beneficial for me,” said Kenny Norman, KRSM sheet metal foreman.

We sincerely appreciate Adam for his dedication to safety efforts. Good job guys and keep up the good work!

FOREMEN SPOTLIGHT: JAMES SEIBERT

May 2017 – James Seibert with Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s (KRSM) Wheeling division is this month’s featured sheet metal foreman.

Although James began working in the industry 19 years ago, he started with Kalkreuth in December of 2011. Hired on as a foreman by Bob Gardner, retired KRSM project manager, James’ first project was at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Once the project was completed, he was then assigned a transmission plant in Baltimore, Maryland along with Chuck King, sheet metal foreman.

James recalled two memorable projects during his time with KRSM, Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia because it involved copper and the Hamburg YMCA in Lexington, Kentucky because the overall design of the building was unique.

James is currently a sheet metal foreman and works most frequently with Jeff Piazza, KRSM Kentucky division manager. He is now working on the science building at Northern Kentucky University. Last month, OSHA made a surprise visit to the job site where he and his crew passed their safety inspection. James always strives to monitor safety hazards, soon to be expired equipment and has routine check-ins with safety personnel.

“I take pride in my work and that’s what I teach my guys. I was extremely lucky to be trained by some of the best in my field. I have so much respect for Kevin Barnhart, Kenny Norman, Chris Norman, and James Holton. I give credit to them for everything I know,” says James.

Living in Paxton, Illinois, James is married to Shannon and has three children, Shawn (25), Roxanna (20), and Shadow (18). We are proud to have James as a member of the Kalkreuth family, and we appreciate his continuous hard work and dedication to each and every job. Keep up the good work James!

KALKREUTH IN THE NEWS

May 2017 – On Thursday, May 18th, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM), in Wheeling, West Virginia, held a media day event at the Capitol Theatre. Members of the local media were invited to learn not only about KRSM but also about the history of the Capitol Theatre.

Stan Gorczyca, KRSM Senior Project Manager, Geoff Wack, KRSM Estimator, and Dan Tennant, KRSM Sales Manager, talked about the process and plan that they have set in place for the roof replacement of the Capitol Theatre. “We are about finished tearing off one section of the old roof, and now we are getting ready to put on the new one. We are expecting to be completely finished with this project in a couple of weeks,” said Gorczyca.

Frank O’Brien, executive director of the Wheeling Convention and Visitors Bureau, which owns the Capitol Theatre, was also there to talk about the project. O’Brien explained that the decision for a roof replacement was to sustain the building. The Capitol Theatre is not the only local job that Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal is working on. “We are finishing up Famous Supply, working on the Health Plan and we are starting Swisher International here soon,” said Gorczyca.

KRSM offered the Capitol Theatre a very competitive price to show commitment to the community. With the project coming close to an end, KRSM is proud to be working on such a historical landmark in downtown Wheeling.

QUARTERLY SAFETY MEETINGS

May 2017 – Last month, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) divisions held their quarterly safety meetings and reviewed fall hazards and the importance of fall prevention. This also gave each division the opportunity to revisit all safety hazards, protective methods, and KRSM’s safety policies.

Last month also marked OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down Week May 8th through the 12th. The purpose of National Safety Stand-Down week was to raise fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries. Each division made sure to add information about the Stand-Down week into their meetings.

We are glad to have crews committed to their job and safety efforts. Thank you to the foremen and project managers who put together these meetings and all who attended and strive to keep Kalkreuth safe.
