Kalkreuth Supports Future Industry Leaders Through Frederick ACE Mentoring Program

Students from the ACE Mentoring Program in Frederick, Maryland, recently presented their year-end design projects after months of innovation. Throughout the program, they explored potential careers in architecture, construction, and engineering while developing valuable skills.

The company’s involvement is led by Kristina Koepke, Submittal Engineer at Kalkreuth. Kristina has dedicated her time and expertise to mentoring students throughout the school year.

“Working with ACE Mentoring is rewarding because I get to help high school students explore whether this industry is the right fit for them and discover which path within architecture, construction, or engineering excites them most,” said Koepke. “It’s inspiring to watch them build real problem-solving and communication skills and relate them to issues found in the workforce. I love seeing students become passionate about their projects as well as their future careers.”

What is ACE Mentoring?

The ACE Mentoring Program is a nationally recognized after-school initiative that introduces high school students to careers in architecture, construction, and engineering. Through hands-on learning and mentorship from industry professionals, students gain real-world experience while developing technical, leadership, and communication skills.

Throughout the academic year, ACE students work alongside architects, engineers, and construction professionals to gain hands-on experience and explore careers in the industry. Second-year participants spend the year developing comprehensive design projects that put the skills they have learned into practice.

Many of the projects presented this year were also submitted to the national Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT) Design and Construction Competition. The competition is a notable accomplishment that highlights the students’ talent.

The final presentations showcased students’ creativity, technical knowledge, and teamwork. They shared their projects with mentors, industry partners, and supporters. Their work demonstrated the impact of mentorship and hands-on learning in preparing the next generation of professionals in the built environment.
