On August 11th, Kalkreuth was honored to sponsor the Seeing Hand Association’s first-ever Gala In The Garden! The Seeing Hand Association is a remarkable non-profit in Wheeling, WV, that fosters independence and opportunity for the visually impaired community, such as bringing Edelman Garden to life.
Edelman Garden can be found at 37 South Broadway Street in Wheeling. Originating in 2014, Aaron and Rhoda Edelman generously contributed this formerly empty plot of land to The Seeing Hand Association, intending for it to transform into an urban garden. With a concept revolving around supporting individuals who are blind or visually impaired, the garden incorporates accessible concrete pathways, vertical shelves, tables, and overhead trellises, all designed to facilitate tasks such as planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting for the workers.
Workers, along with the board and the community, gain the chance to buy fresh, locally sourced, organic produce. Any surplus produce is frequently left on the agency’s doorstep, available for those in need, free of charge. Beyond its practical functions, the Edelman Garden serves as an enlightening experience for both workers and the community, offering volunteering opportunities. The garden’s funding comes from grants and welcomes contributions from individuals and corporations alike.
