Shawnda Burgess and Stephanie Barry, Project Administrators for KRSM, recently started the Wheeling Council for National Women in Roofing (NWiR). Their first community initiative was to give back to healthcare workers during National Nurses Month. NWiR Wheeling Council collaborated with several sponsors to honor over 300 nurses from Wheeling Hospital.“Nurses Month is personal for us, as we both have family members in the healthcare field and see how COVID-19 has been more intense than a typical day,” said Stephanie Barry. “We are thankful for our healthcare workers all year long and National Nurses Month gave us a great opportunity to show the healthcare professionals our gratitude for their selfless dedication and commitment during these times.”
National Women in Roofing is a volunteer-based organization that supports and advances the careers of women in the construction industry. They provide networking, mentoring, education, and recruitment opportunities to empower women in roofing, and to contribute to the overall betterment and professionalism of the industry.
“Stephanie and I started the Wheeling Council because we are both passionate about our industry and helping others,” said Shawnda Burgess. “This organization is a way for us to work with women in roofing and other construction trades, and to encourage each other to make a positive impact within the industry.”
