Project Description
This 189-year-old park – last fixed up in 1935 – now includes:
- New tree cover and seating areas
- Winding paths
- A children’s play area
- Improved stormwater management
- A new central fountain
- A pavilion to host a cafe
The city and federal officials have committed that everyone will have access to Franklin Park regardless of residential status. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser says the park stands as a defining landmark in the city.
The Kalkreuth team faced a few challenges along the way, including reopening Franklin Park before completing the job, adding the challenge of maintaining safe foot traffic for nearby parkgoers, and using ACM panels to create a hairline joint increased the job’s complexity.
