Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex
The Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex has had a home in Morgan County’s Appalachian Region since 1986. Construction was completed in two phases, coming to a close in December of 1991. The design received the Kentucky Society of Architects of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Hone Award of Design Excellence a year earlier.

Project Description
This facility is a medium-security prison with a minimum-security unit that offers its inmates drug and alcohol addiction treatment, anger management, and general life skills courses. Inmates also have access to basic adult education courses, technical/vocational programs, and the prison’s “Prison to Paycheck” program. This program educates inmates on resumes, job applications, and job interviews.
EKCC’s mission statement reads, “To serve and protect the people of Kentucky by securely providing care, custody, and control of adult male convicted felons and by providing a structured work environment, academic and vocational education, religious and behavior modification programs, all with the intent and design to support inmate accountability, reduce recidivism and increase the incidence of community reintegration.”
