A New Chapter for the Ohio Expo Center

In the heart of Columbus, Ohio, lies the Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds, the permanent home of the iconic, agricultural-based Ohio State Fair. The 360-acre grounds have operated as a year-round, service-oriented event facility, benefiting the Columbus community for over 140 years. In addition to the annual Ohio State Fair, the Center is home to several of Columbus’ major events: the Arnold Sports Festival, Equine Affaire, the Deer & Turkey Expo, the Ohio Beef Expo, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Car Show, the All-American Quarter Horse Congress, and more. The facility is also accustomed to holding many sporting events, meetings and conferences, weddings, consumer shows, and banquets.

In 2023, the Expo 2050 Task Force began its efforts to enhance the fairgrounds by building new facilities while also preserving its historic character. There are many projects underway, including a large entry gate, a new town square, enhanced underground infrastructure, landscaping, and much more. However, there is one project set to steal everyone’s hearts: the brand-new carousel.

A Fitting Finish: Kalkreuth Helps Bring a Historic Carousel to Life

Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal was selected because of its reputation as a trusted commercial roofing contractor in Columbus, OH, to provide a roofing solution for the new carousel. From top to bottom, our team installed the horse weathervane, a standing-seam roof, and gutters and downspouts.

The carousel’s design is dedicated to Ohio, showcasing its history and iconic figures through paintings and carvings. As a protective measure, the carousel was equipped with large glass garage doors that can be lowered to protect the ride from the weather. These new features create a specialty attraction sure to be part of Ohioans’ memories for decades to come.
