Project Description
In 2024, Kalkreuth completed a roof replacement of the steep slope front roof of what is known as The Professional Building. Currently owned by the City of Wheeling’s former Mayor, this historic building has served many purposes in downtown Wheeling.
Constructed in 1892 by The City Bank of Wheeling, the six-story Victorian building at 1300 Market Street was originally known as the City Bank Building. At the time, it stood as the tallest commercial structure in the state. Its impressive Richardsonian Romanesque facade, designed by architect Edward Bates Franzheim, was built using approximately 600 tons of granite sourced from New England.
The building was once home to the Dollar Savings & Trust Co. (a forerunner of WesBanco), the now-defunct Wheeling Stock Exchange, medical offices, and other professional services. During the 20th century, it became known as The Professional Building.
