INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT


April 2017 – On Friday, April 21, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s (KRSM) Kentucky division sponsored the 3rd annual Kentucky Builders Exchange (BX) networking tailgate event at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington. Attending on behalf of KRSM were Business Development Manager Lyndsey Martin (pictured, center) and Project Managers Joe Minor and Chase Cupryk.

“This event was a great way to network, and I was able to meet a lot of great new connections,” Lyndsey said. She also won the Builders Exchange competition by turning in the most referrals to help build their membership and received a brand new YETI cooler. BX representatives John Olivia and Brandy Borchers presented Lyndsey with her prize and expressed their appreciation to have Kalkreuth as an event sponsor. Thank you to Lyndsey, Chase, and Joe for your industry involvement efforts.

FOREMAN SPOTLIGHT : AMANDA LONG

April 2017 – Amanda Long with Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s (KRSM) Kentucky division is this month’s featured service foreman.

Amanda began working for KRSM in 2013 with the labor union. She caught on very quickly and was promptly asked to switch to the roofers union, and she is now a Service Foreman. Amanda recalled her first project with KRSM was the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington, KY where she quickly adapted to a switch from a production crew to service halfway through the project. Another one of her high profile projects was the University of Kentucky’s Commonwealth Stadium. Amanda is currently starting a new project at Morehead State University working on the new east parking and dining facility with Service Manager Steve Mitchell installing curb flashing, walkway pads, and pipe boots.

Amanda has a total of 4 years experience in the industry and has worked on several high-profile projects during her time with Kalkreuth. The most memorable project she noted was a government job at the Federal Prison Medical Center in Lexington where she said she learned everything.

“Amanda is a dedicated worker and caught on to the roofing industry very quickly,” said Service Manager Steve Mitchell who works with her frequently. “She has gained the respect of her coworkers and has earned her position as service foreman.”

When asked about safety on the job, Amanda said “It’s extremely important. We all want to go home the same way we came in.” Amanda lives in Harrodsburg, KY and has three children, Destiny (14), Gryson (10), and Mason (7). We are proud to have Amanda as a member of the Kalkreuth family and sincerely appreciate her continuous hard work and dedication to service excellence since she began in 2013.

KALKREUTH IS AWARDED MANUFACTURER EXCELLENCE AWARD

April 2017 -The Carlisle SynTec Excellence in Single-Ply (ESP) Award was presented to Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) based on overall volume and quality of Carlisle single-ply roofing system applications. ESP is given out annually to a small percentage of Carlisle’s most dedicated and professionally minded applicators.

In a letter to KRSM’s Maryland division Operations Manager Ernie Giancola, Nick Shears, Carlisle’s EVP of Sales and Marketing, stated, “It is the unyielding dedication to quality, coupled with the sheer volume of your installations that has allowed Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal to receive the ESP distinction.”

KALKREUTH PROJECT WINS MBA AWARD

February 2017 – The Master Builders Association (MBA) hosted the 10th Annual Evening of Excellence at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Seven general contractors were recognized for excellence in their respective project categories, which included Mosites Construction for their work on the Carnegie Mellon Jared L. Cohon University Center in Pittsburgh.

Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal made a large contribution to this project scope. Our work on the project included siding, composite panels, metal roofing, plate column covers, vapor barrier, and base and cap sheeting. KRSM’s Project Management team included Chris Lemmon and Brendan Ball, and Ben Roxby (roofing) and Chris Cecchini (sheet metal) served as the foremen on the project. Congratulations to the entire KRSM team on a job well done!

EKU JOB FAIR


March 2017 – On Thursday, March 2, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) participated in the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Job Fair in Richmond, KY. Attending on behalf of KRSM were three EKU alumni, (L to R) Estimator Justin Spillman, Estimating Intern Tyler Skaggs, and Estimator Benson Phillips.

“It’s great to be able to return to our alma mater and build on the relationship between KRSM and EKU,” said Benson. “Both are great organizations that the three of us are all proud to be part of, and both KRSM and EKU recognize the mutual benefits that an ongoing partnership holds for students and the company.”

KALKREUTH CREW AWARDED FOR SAFETY


March 2017 – On Wednesday, March 1, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s project at Morgan State University Behavioral and Social Sciences Center in Baltimore, MD received a surprise inspection from the company’s captive insurance company, Northeast Roofing Insurance (NERI). Our team passed the inspection and has been awarded with gift-cards for a job well done.

The crew included (pictured L to R) Justin Shultz, Joe Kramer, Chad Brandon, and Jeremy Persinger (sheet metal foreman). Also on the crew but not pictured were Dwayne Bonds, Mike Higgins, and Gary Baker.

INAUGURAL KALKREUTH COMPANY MEETING & KRSM’S METAL FABRICATION FACILITY TOUR


MARCH 2017 – On Wednesday, March 15, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal held its Inaugural Company Meeting at The Highlands Conference Center in Triadelphia, WV. There were nearly 115
employees present at the meeting with an additional 25-30 employees live streaming the event from their home offices in Maryland, Ohio, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. KRSM’s metal fabrication company employees also attended the event.Bill Good, recently retired Executive Director of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) served as a keynote speaker and kicked off the event with a “State of the Industry” address to inform and educate our employees about the up-and-coming trends and challenges for roofing and metal projects.John Kalkreuth, Company President, followed Bill with a “Past, Present, and Future” address to inform everyone of the company’s roots as well as present-day goals and objectives. Following lunch, David Hesse, KRSM Maryland division VP, Pat Hurley, Ohio division VP, Jeff Piazza, Kentucky division Manager, Chad McLeish, Estimating VP, and John Trifonoff, VP of KRSM’s metal fabrication facility, shared their unique stories with the crowd and how each of them have grown and developed alongside the company.
Jim Hurley,KRSM Executive VP, wrapped up with a summary of the purpose of the meeting and encouragement to all newcomers that upper managers are consistently reevaluating how to provide an advantageous future for all Kalkreuth employees. “We want you all to know there is opportunity here, and we are always working to provide that opportunity for the future leaders of the company,” Jim said.

FOREMAN SPOTLIGHT: OSVALDO “OZ” LUGO

MARCH 2017 – Osvaldo “Oz” Lugo with Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal’s (KRSM) West Virginia division is this month’s featured sheet metal foreman.

Oz began working for KRSM as a sheet metal worker in 2013 and became a sheet metal foreman in just six short months. Oz recalled his first project with KRSM was the Maryland Public Health Laboratory in Baltimore where he worked with former Project Manager (PM) Jeff Piazza before he was promoted to Kentucky Division Manager. Oz is currently working at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with PM John Sberna.

Oz has a total of 14 years experience in the industry and has worked on several high-profile projects during his time with Kalkreuth. One of his most memorable projects was actually his first project at the Maryland Public Health Laboratory because it utilized a newer panel system.

“Oz is a good worker and pays attention to detail,” said PM John Sberna who works with him frequently. “He’s very safety conscientious, a good leader, and keeps the crews happy.”

When asked about safety on the job, Oz said “I always put safety first and have not had a problem on a job in my 14 years of working. I make sure to call (Safety Manager) Jeremy Dvorcek to make sure I have all I need, and I always remember to know my limits. If I need help with something, I don’t hesitate to reach out for help, and I encourage my crews to do the same.”

Oz stated his sincere appreciation to KRSM for caring about its employees. “They treat you like a person and take such good care of you… bad days, good days, hot, cold, or rain I will always come to work.”

Oz lives in Frederick, Maryland with his wife Melani and has two children, Sofia (6) and William (almost 3). We are proud to have Oz as a member of the Kalkreuth family and sincerely appreciate his continuous hard work since he began in 2013.
