Project Description
The Virginia Commonwealth University Institute for Contemporary Arts has a home on the busiest intersection in Richmond, Virginia – Broad and Belvidere Streets. It showcases art and design exhibitions, film screenings, public lectures, educational experiences, performances, labs, children’s programs, and more. The 32,000-square-foot facility features a 210-seat auditorium, classrooms, gallery space, an outdoor installation, an entry hall, a gift shop, and a cafe with a catering kitchen. The matt translucent glass and pre-weathered titanium zinc skin create a greenish-gray tonality – giving the exterior a shifting presence. Also, due to the building’s geothermal walls, it is LEED Gold Certified. The same amount of energy is harvested year-round, no matter the season.
