Project Description
Located in the historic Phillips House Row, 655 Main Street was built in 1843 by Arthur M. Phillips for his son Hans. Alongside its neighboring structures at 653 and 659 Main Street, this home is a piece of Wheeling’s rich past. Arthur M. Phillips, who lived at 653 Main (built in 1831), also operated a foundry along the river, where the Providence Greene Apartments now stand. At the time of its construction, this area was still part of Virginia, and the home predates the Wheeling Suspension Bridge by six years. In 2021, 655 Main changed ownership outside of the Phillips-Moser families for the first time when Thad Podratsky sold it, marking a new chapter in its nearly two-century history.
This historic home carries nearly two centuries of stories, bridging Wheeling’s industrial past with its present.
